Pink or Blue? How much do we know about gender? 

Over the years an impressive amount of investigation and research has been tearing down all that was known about gender identity and its social implications. The difference between gender as social and sex as biological was just the initial point to abandon the binary idea of gender and promote diversity, based in gender as a social construction, a dynamic part of the culture. Nevertheless, these ideas have spread in different ways in current society, a lot of them remain as stereotypes that flourish hate, especially in a country like Chile. The main purpose of this investigation is to discover how chilean population perceive gender stereotypes in present chilean society. The methodology of this work will be based in mixed methods, basically interviews to chilean experts in gender identity but mostly surveys to random people in Santiago de Chile. However, this investigation will be guided by philosopher Judith Butler´s gender theory, especially focused in her book "Undoing Gender", where she examines gender and its performance, how its development is related to social norms and not to human nature and personality, and the weight of social conditions in the possibilities of living. To conclude, this investigation will provide information in order to discuss about chilean culture and idiosyncrasy, and so to carry out government projects to raise awareness about the damage of the cultural imposition of gender in the new generations.
